PM Narendra Modi on Saturday dedicated projects worth more than Rs 20,000 crore to Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura, the three states that he visited on a two-day whirlwind tour of the northeast.

A new India can be built only when the northeast is developed," the PM said in Arunachal Pradesh, kicking off the bounty for the northeastern states with projects worth more than Rs 4,000 crore lined up for the state. He added that projects worth an additional Rs 13,000 crore have already been rolled out in the state.

PM said his government had allocated Rs 44,000 crore for the region, double the money allotted by previous UPA governments.

The PM also laid the foundation of the Se La Tunnel that will provide all-weather connectivity to the Tawang-Valley for civilians, as well as security forces, throughout the year. He also inaugurated DD Arun Prabha - a new 24-hour Doordarshan channel for the state - and dedicated the 110-MW Pare Hydroelectric Plant to the nation.

PM Modi claimed 100% household electrification in Arunachal under the saubhagya-yojana and also laid the foundation for a permanent campus of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) at Jote. He also inaugurated 50 health and wellness centres in the state.

In Assam, he launched projects worth Rs 18,000 crore for boosting infrastructure, connectivity and economic growth of the entire region. He laid the foundation of the North East Gas Grid project that will ensure uninterrupted natural gas supply and boost industrial growth. The Hollong Modular Gas Processing Plant located in Tinsukia, which he inaugurated remotely, will deliver 15% of the total gas produced in Assam.

In addition to the gas grid, Modi laid the foundation stone for a 729-km gas pipeline from Barauni to Guwahati passing through Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam, which will feed the network in the region. He also laid the foundation of NRL Bio Refinery at Numaligarh, which will be the biggest of 12 such refineries being set up in the country.

Modi also laid the foundation of a six-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra, which on completion will reduce time between the two river banks from one and half hours to a mere 15 minutes.
